How to make Edible Glue

How do I make Edible Glue

Also called Gum Glue

Add 2 tablespoons of warm water to a quarter teaspoon of Tylose Powder and allow the Tylose powder to melt. Don’t worry if at this stage the glue appears not to be blending. Put a lid on the container and leave it in the refrigerator overnight and in the

morning you will have a perfectly clear and ready to use glue.

The glue should be a dripping consistency. If it is too thick, just add a little more water and stir with a toothpick .

The edible glue should be stored in the refrigerator when not in use.

To apply the glue, use a good quality paintbrush and brush on to the area where you are going to be working. Leave until it begins to dry a little so that the area is just tacky to touch.

You have great little gumpaste figurines. Have you ever heard of the book Clay Characters for Kids by Maureen Carlson? She has great figurines and your styles are very similar to each other. It is a book I enjoyed learning new techniques from and I think that you would enjoy them too.

I am currently making a bus cake for a friend’s tour company anniversary party and decided to do the decals and windows to the bus out of gum paste and the bus itself would be covered in marshmallow fondant (I find living in Georgia, the marshmallow is easier to work with.) I was going to use Royal icing to attach the decals and windows. Do you think the Edible Glue would work better? I would be up for any suggestions. I am a little stressed with this cake and with all the time I put into the decals I want them to stay on the bus.
    Thank you for any input!

I want to make a Christmas tree using red, white and green M&Ms. I am looking for edible glue and I keep seeing the words “Tylose powder” – what is it and where can I find it? Michael’s has never heard of it. If it is not easy to find, is there another way that I can make edible glue? Thanks for any help – Donna Verret

  7. tylose powder is a gum ingredient that is added to fondant or gumpaste to enable it to dry, it also helps in areas that have high humidity too. When it is added to water it thickens up. Michaels Crafts does not carry it, I purchase it at http://www.fondantsource.com online.

    Hi Donna,
I just wanted to ask you about Gum Tex by Wilton, We only have 2 craft stores where I live so I bought the gum tex. Every place I read everyone uses either Tylose or CMC I don’t know what CMC is. I have the recipe for glue gum “wiltons” but they use meringue powder and warm water then place in a tight closeing jar in frige. over night which I did the Glue gum is white is how it should look? I did”nt want to use it until I asked the “Queen of Sugarpaste” Please let me know so I can get to working on some fun… Roger
